Becoming A Christian

How to become a Christian

Becoming a Christian means becoming a part of God's Forever Family

We all arrived on this planet the same way. We were born. But, being born doesn't automatically put us into the family of God. Only God can do that for us. The good news is that He wants to. God's love extends to every person on earth and He desires for each of us to become part of His forever family. You may be wondering what excludes us from the Family of God in the first place? The Bible gives a simple answer. Sin.

We are all sinners.

The Bible says "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…" Romans 3:23.

Sin separates us from God who loves us. It is this same God who has made a way for our sin to be taken away and to give us a new, second birth into God's forever family. It is like Jesus said to a man named Nicodemus, "You must be born again…" John 3:23.

Jesus Christ is the way into God's forever family

The Bible says that,"God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16. In other words, because of His great love for us, Jesus Christ died for us on the cross and rose again so that our sins could be forgiven. It's not our good works, but our faith in Jesus Christ that causes us to be born into God's forever family.

So, how  do I become a Christian and become a member of God's forever family?

First, we must turn away from our sin. The Bible calls this repentance. In John 5:32, Jesus said, "I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."  Then, we place our faith in Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. When we place our faith in Jesus and not our own good works, God forgives our sin and causes us to be born again into God's family. I Peter 1:3 says that "God…, according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the ressurection of Jesus Christ from the dead."

This can happen to you…

By praying this simple prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I need Your forgiveness. I now turn from my sins and place my faith in You because You died for me. I invite You to come into my life. Thank you for forgiving my sins and receiving me into Your forever family. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
